Because, when the McMullen's aren’t doing ‘run of the mill’ family kinds of things... they’re flipping houses. Together!
Led by mom Andrea, the co-owner of ADM Design and a twenty-year veteran in the renovation and remodelling business, the family spends every spare moment smashing, scraping, hammering, building, plumbing, levelling, installing and also decorating anything they can get their hands on!
It’s a 24hr business that means all hands on deck! And while Andrea and Kirk usually have veto powers, the kids have their fair share of say. From oldest to youngest, each member of this family is passionate about turning regular homes into dream homes.
Andrea leads the gang and their ever-expanding crew, with her incredible eye for design and an affinity for finding a homes’ ‘true self’. Kirk executes, running the construction and overseeing everything from electrical to plumbing, when he isn’t doing it himself. And together, Kirk and Andrea manage three young adults, with very different personalities and skills.
Remodelling a house is always hard. Try doing it when you’re boss is your mom!
20 Years as CEO of ADM Design
Andrea, AKA mom, has a knack for making money. For the past twenty years, she has been buying homes for herself and for clients and doing whatever it takes to turn lost causes into highly profitable investments.
But there is more to Andrea than just design. Andrea has a laugh and a smile that pulls everyone in. She is as ap- proachable as the girl next door, if the girl next door was a décor genius.
Andrea wants to make peoples lives better and her belief in her ability to do so is infectious. Even if you start off disagreeing with her plan, just wait a couple of minutes... and you too will follow suit.
20 years general contractor, carpenter, electrician and all around go to guy
Kirk is the most reliable guy on the planet and probably the most productive. He started working for Andrea as the company’s carpenter, but over the years his skills set has expanded to - ‘guy who can do anything!’
He is fun and sweet, but somehow still able to keep multiple job sites in check and moving forward. And most of all turning Andrea’s hair-raising ideas that come from Andrea.
And while he may sometimes look a little frazzled about the next big project she has taken on, his love for Andrea seems to supersede all of that stress and lead him down the path of success.
Painter extraordinaire and assistant decorator
Shayna is the ball of fire her parents are not sure how to control, but in some ways, don’t really need to.
She’s outspoken, opinionated and as she puts it, persuasive. But despite all her strong traits and maybe because of them, no one would accuse Shayna of not being a hard worker.
At the young age of 8 she picked up her first paintbrush and has never put it down. Now, the family relies on her to deal with “walls” from sanding everything down to removing old wall paper to priming and painting, Shayne’s work would make most pro painters blush.
She’s a warm and loving big sister, adored by her brothers. And sometimes she likes to bring her boyfriend to the site... she says it makes her work harder.
Go-fer guy. When you need someone to go ‘fer’ something, you ask Justin
Justin is much more serious than he may seem. Sure, his reputation is for sleeping in. And when his mom arrives on the scene it’s harder to get him to work (“she’s the only one who can let me go home!”), but the truth is that Justin is always there for his family.
But Justin is also the family sales man. Clients love him and he’s become the mediator between his mom’s big ideas and their clients shocked state of mind.
In many ways, Justin is the heart of the operation, while he is quick to make jokes, he also really loves everyone and it comes across. He gets excited when a project does well and when push comes to shovel, he’s willing to demolish and build as good as the rest of the McMullen’s.
Taylor is young but everyone will tell you is one of the hardest workers on the team.
His job is mainly, moving furniture, demolition and getting rid of garbage. But lately he has been getting more into hanging doors and windows, and also electrical work.
He seems to have a real knack for detailed work. That combined with his generally positive disposition and work ethic, he’s the crew’s favourite – for sure!
At any given time this family has between 5 – 10 projects on the go. Whether they are revamping a home for people who are desperate to sell, or for a newlywed couple that is looking to turn the home they can afford into the one they love.
Walk into an ADM home and you are immediately struck with a sense of modern whimsy. Clean fresh designs are her signature style. But all that modern style doesn’t always mean expensive.
One of Kirk’s and Andrea’s favourite projects are to find dilapidated cottages and turn them into heavenly escapes.
