Hack This Dish turns the tables around, putting the credibility of these opinionated amateur food lovers and chef wannabes on trial.
Everyone knows a THAT foodie... He or she will Instagram everything they create, believing their home-cooked meals are as good, if not better, than anything you will enjoy in a fine dining restaurant. Place them in front of a dish created by a professional chef, and they will claim to know every ingredient and exactly how to make it - whether they are right or wrong!
In each episode, an amateur food lover, who is full of culinary confidence, is set the ultimate culinary challenge: to “reverse engineer” a chef’s mystery dish.
No recipe to follow...everything at stake... Without a recipe to follow, or help from the pros, the Foodie will be forced to rely solely on their own skills and instincts to crack the code and figure out how to make that restaurant dish.
Shopping, experimenting, tasting – we don’t throw our foodie into the fire! Practice first.
Next, the heat gets turned up... The Foodie will replicate their dish in a professional kitchen. They will supervise restaurant staff, who will work, often frustratingly, to their exact instructions. This time, It won’t be their friends quietly whispering in judgment... but the towns culinary elite, including the chef himself!
This is a community event - for one evening only, there will be only one item on the menu: The Foodie’s Faux Chef Creation.
The reviews are posted! Hack the Dish to Chef’s delicious perfection, and the Foodie wins town-wide bragging rights. Their culinary bravado will also be rewarded with a $5,000 cash tip, at the discretion of diners, who will post verdicts about the Foodie’s efforts on a designated social media account.
If the Foodie creates a dog’s dinner, he or she will exit the restaurant with a bruised reputation....and they will be required to return the chefs cap, and work a shift as a dishwasher on a busy night.
Hack This Dish explores both the minds of both Chefs and Foodies, highlights the skill in creating and perfecting dishes, and demonstrates exactly what goes into achieving the overall dining experience..
